What did you see as President Obama was sworn in?

The election and swearing in of Barack Obama is solidified in the annals of American History. Phrases like "history making" and "once in a lifetime" will forever be synonymous with the mention of the 44th president of the United States of America.

But for all those that braved the cold, for those that stayed home and watched wall-to-wall media coverage, and for those that found themselves in other places, I have just one question for you...What did you see? I don't mean the massive number of people that came from around the globe to the nations capital, or the various political commentators verbally dissecting the day. I don't even mean President Obama's speech or former president Bush's helicopter departure, I mean WHAT DID YOU SEE?

For the elderly who remember the days and the emotions of legalized violence and separation, as they watched civil rights marches but didn't believe anything would change. For those that were alive before Martin Luther King Jr. and went on to out live him, what did they see as President Obama was sworn in?

For children who are connected to the world via myspace, facebook, and other social mediums, who find it common to eat where ever they want and go where ever they want. Where it is normal to go to school with all races and nationalities, and the only thing stopping them from voting is their age, what did they see as President Obama was sworn in?

For a generation of whites who fought to keep African-Americans out of voting booths who years later their children and grand-children would work deligintly to get one in the White House, what did they see as President Obama was sworn in?


As I watched President Elect Barack Obama become President Barack Obama, I saw African-Americans young and old stand a little taller, I saw the elderly shed a tear for those that never lived to see this day and for those that are alive to experience it. I saw those who truly know the worth of prayer pray for his wisdom, his family, his integrity, and his safety. I saw a time ushered in that will seperate the wheat from the tare and will cause many to take a stand unto death. I saw a moment I never thought I would see in my lifetime.

So I ask you, What did you see as President Obama was sworn in?
